ZT FFA Members Promote FFA Week at Tractor Supply
Olivia Pflaumer – Zane Trace FFA Reporter
Across the country, FFA members celebrate the last week of February as National FFA Week. Members of the Zane Trace FFA wanted to kick off the week by hosting a booth at the Chillicothe Tractor Supply Co. Store to promote FFA and agriculture. Seven chapter members helped at the booth and asked trivia questions to TSC customers for a chance to win a prize. The students impacted over 100 customers with their booth. Along with trivia questions, Tractor Supply was accepting $1+ donations for the National FFA Organization. This event was a new opportunity for the chapter and they hope to continue this project in future years. Thank you to TSC of Chillicothe for enabling us to spread the word about FFA and agriculture education.

Zane Trace FFA Chapter National Convention Trip 2015
Olivia Pflaumer ZT FFA Reporter
Early morning on Wednesday, October 28th, 26 members of the Zane Trace FFA chapter departed for the 88th FFA National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Some of the things students got to experience included; FFA Convention Sessions and Career Show, Hypnotist Show, Wet & Muddy Caving Tour, Buckeye Bash Dance, Mark's Feed Store Restaurant, Exciting Guest Speakers.
On Wednesday, some of the activities included a tour of Consolidated Grain and Barge in Cincinnati where students witnessed thousands of bushels of grain being loaded onto river barges and learned about careers in the grain marketing and transportation industries. The day continued with a visit to Freedom Hall for students to explore the Expo Center and to attend the Opening Session with speaker Dr. Rick Rigsby.
The next day started extra early with a visit of Churchill Downs, most famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby annually! Everyone went on a tour of the backside of the track to see horses doing workouts, and got to experience the Churchill Downs museum to learn about the history of the Derby. The next stop for the day was a muddy one! Students from the FFA chapter got to go on a tour of Marengo Caves, which was a highlight of the trip for many. While most of the students were caving, a few members attended the afternoon session of the convention where they received the plaque recognizing the Zane Trace FFA Chapter as a national three star chapter, the highest honor a chapter can receive. This marked the first time for the ZT FFA to achieve this honor. In the evening, the groups of students met up for dinner before they went to the Hypnotist Show, and danced all night at the Buckeye Bash!
The last day of convention ended with one last session with speaker Amberely Snyder, a former state FFA officer from Utah who spoke about her journey to overcome her paralysis from the waist down. The members were inspired by her message and were thankful to have an opportunity to be a part of the “standing room only” crowd at her session. The members then headed to lunch and a stop at the Career Show before departure. Several students stayed behind in Louisville for something special. Zane Trace FFA member, Mariah Cox, was on stage for becoming a National Finalist in her proficiency award area of Food Science & Technology.
It was another excellent trip for the Zane Trace FFA chapter!
